Updates & Patch Notes
Every major Scrap Mechanic patch since the Drilling Thunder launch, through the current 1.0.5 live build.
Patch 1.0.5 — August 3, 2026
The current live build as of early August 2026. Axolot shipped a focused hotfix after the 1.0.4 stability pass:
- Welding onto bearings, suspensions and pistons restored — a regression from the previous patch broke the Connect Tool on these parts, blocking vehicle builds, suspension setups and piston doors. This fix is critical for anyone building vehicles or automated bases. See controllers and sensors for wiring patterns and our first vehicle guide for a starter tractor.
- Bug reporting — Axolot asks players to email bugs@axolotgames.com with a description, log file and save file. Log files live at
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Scrap Mechanic\Logs. Survival saves are at%AppData%\Roaming\Axolot Games\Scrap Mechanic\User\User_*\Save\Survival. Full walkthrough: troubleshooting.
If welding still fails after updating, verify Steam has pulled 1.0.5 and check the troubleshooting page before reporting.
Patch 1.0.4 — August 1, 2026
Stability and content-restore patch from the first week of August 2026. Axolot focused on restoring missing Creative parts and fixing post-launch stability:
- Creative parts restored — several blocks that disappeared from Creative Mode after the 1.0 launch are back in the spawn menu.
- Survival parts in Creative and Challenge — a large batch of Survival-only components now appear in Creative and Challenge Mode inventories.
- Flat Creative terrain — clutter type on flat templates renders correctly again.
- Garage chest capacity — the Scrap City Garage chest no longer accepts more items than its slot limit (previously allowed storage exploits).
- Glowbug quest NPC — the builder-quest giver can no longer be picked up and moved accidentally.
- Growlab 5 redesign — a combat section in Grow Labs was reworked so players cannot get locked out after fights.
- Elevator sensor crash — fixed a crash when logic sensors were attached to mine elevators.
- Springs and pistons — building through springs and pistons works again; piston and light inventory rendering improved.
- Warehouse beacons — markers from exploded warehouses no longer clutter the Logbook and compass.
Patch 1.0.3 — July 29, 2026
- Creative weather commands —
/weather,/timeofday, and/timeprogressadded for environment control in Creative Mode. - Rendering fixes — visual stability improvements in Creative and Challenge Mode.
- Raid trigger fix — raids that stopped spawning (blocking harvest cycles) work again — see farming and raids.
- Turret Seat — bearings, suspensions and pistons on a Turret Seat are no longer deleted when the seat is removed.
- Vault quests — progression works if the vault quota completes early; valuables can be picked up during the vault introduction quest.
- Underground event — fixed a softlock during a deep-underground scripted event.
- Thruster UI — multiple interface bugs resolved.
- Older CPU crash — stability fix for legacy processors.
Patch 1.0.2 — July 27, 2026
- Challenge chest items — missing rewards in Challenge Mode chests restored.
- Mods button restored — the Workshop mods menu returned to Creative and Custom Game mode screens — see mods and Steam Workshop.
- Quest progression — several yellow and blue quests that failed to advance now complete correctly.
- Crash fixes — general stability improvements across Survival and Creative.
Patch 1.0.1 — July 27, 2026
Axolot Games shipped a hotfix two days after the 1.0 launch to address the most reported launch-week bugs:
- Multiplayer desync fixes — improved position prediction for guest players during vehicle driving and Connect Tool use.
- Save stability — reduced crash rate on long-playtime worlds with large automated bases.
- Trash Bot arena — fixed a phase-transition softlock when the boss teleported off the roof platform.
- Schematicbot — corrected several schematic scan failures for Baby Craftbot and UV Grow Bed.
- Performance — additional physics batching for underground caverns with 200+ dynamic lights.
If you updated on launch day and hit any of these issues, make sure Steam has pulled 1.0.1 before starting a new Survival world.
Scrap Mechanic 1.0 & Drilling Thunder — July 24, 2026
The full-release update. After years in Early Access, Scrap Mechanic 1.0 launched on July 24, 2026 alongside the Drilling Thunder chapter. The base game price on Steam increased to $29.99 at launch. Existing owners receive the update free through the same Steam library entry.
What is new

- Full underground layer. Every world now has a procedurally generated cavern network with rare metal veins, lava pockets and new enemies.
- Chapter 2 questline. Interactive NPCs at the Mechanic Station and Mining Island drive a voiced story that ends at the Trash Bot boss. Read quests and NPCs.
- Plasma Drill and Plasma Saw. Late-game mining tools that cut through tough bedrock in a 3x3 area. Indexed on the plasma tools page.
- Ore Crusher and Ore Prospector. Machines that process raw ore and filter gravel for rare materials.
- Claygun. A terrain-shaping tool for the desert biome and base terraforming. See how to use the Claygun.
- Schematics. Collectible items that unlock Craftbot recipes when scanned by the Schematicbot. Full reference: Schematics.
- Dynamic weather. Rain, storms and desert tornadoes that affect visibility and travel. Details: weather and biomes.

- Automated farming meta. Vacuum-pump gantry farms are now the standard endgame food loop. Build guide: automated farming.
- New enemy roster. Cablebots, Minerbots, expanded Tapebot variants and the Trash Bot boss on warehouse rooftops.
- Updated ruins. Roadside structures now drop schematics, components and spawn random helper NPCs — see ruins and rewards.
- Bot digging. Some enemies break through Claygun terrain; metal walls still block pathing.
- Steam achievements. 34 achievements added with the 1.0 client — full guide: Steam achievements.
- The Garage in Scrap City. Import blueprints from Creative worlds and spawn finished machines into Survival. Full guide: Scrap City Garage.
- Fan Pack DLC. Optional cosmetic bundle — station skins, outfits and decorative blocks; no gameplay advantage.
- New building parts. Sticky wheels, 360-degree pilot seats, Turret Seat, Sawbot, UV growing beds, Battery Generator, digital clocks and boomboxes — full reference: new 1.0 parts.
- Fire spread. Campfires, explosions and lava now propagate through flammable blocks on the surface and underground.
- Quality-of-life batch. Large chests auto-collect loot bubbles, blocks can be force-placed, engines gain a speed notch when holding Shift while driving, and water buckets refill from water containers.
- Engine overhaul. Frozen bearings, improved physics batching, up to 512 dynamic lights without ray tracing.
- Graphics upgrade. New glass shader, improved lighting, cinematic camera angles.
What changed in balance
- Crafting recipes and item acquisition rebalanced for smoother progression.
- Item Schematics now gate many mid-game and late-game recipes.
- Warehouses are darker and harder; Tapebots remain glass cannons but hit harder.
- Raid aggression rebalanced; farming raid cells reworked.
- Hunger and thirst drain slower in the current 1.0 tuning.
- Haybot projectile spam reduced; Farmbot charge attack added.
- Lava now spreads and burns through blocks — a real hazard underground.
Saves, mods and Creative Mode
- Survival saves from pre-1.0 Early Access may not load. Axolot warned players to start fresh Survival worlds or roll back the Steam beta branch if they need an old save. Creative worlds are less affected but should still be tested after updating.
- Mods may break temporarily until authors update for the new engine. Check the Workshop before updating if you rely on mods.
- Creative Mode and Challenge Mode remain available with 400+ parts and 40 Master Mechanic Trials.
