How to Complete the 1.0 Questline
Every quest objective in the early game, with checkpoints and tips.
Why the questline matters
The 1.0 & Drilling Thunder update introduced a proper questline with voice-acted NPCs. Skipping the questline is possible but slow. Completing it unlocks:
- The underground layer.
- The Plasma Drill schematic.
- The Ore Prospector.
- The schematic recipes for the Trash Bot drops.
If you only do one questline, do this one.
Quest 1: Welcome to the Mechanic Station
The first quest starts the moment you interact with the Dispenserbot. It has three objectives:
- Place a Craftbot.
- Craft a Driver Seat.
- Sit in the Driver Seat.
This takes about 5 minutes. The quest reward is a small pack of refined metal.
Quest 2: The Mechanic’s First Build
The Mechanic Station NPC asks you to build a basic tractor. The exact parts are listed in the quest dialog. Build the tractor, sit in the seat, and the quest completes.
Quest 3: A Farming We Will Go
The NPC asks you to plant and harvest your first crop. Walk to the nearest water source, place a Soil Bag, plant a Wheat seed, water it, and wait for it to grow. The quest tracks the harvest.
Quest 4: A Trader’s Plea
The NPC tells you to visit the Trader hideout. Walk or drive there — the compass marker guides you. Once you arrive, the Trader offers the Spud Gun trade. Accept the trade to complete the quest.
Quest 5: Hunting the Farmbot
The NPC asks you to defeat a Farmbot. This is your first serious combat encounter. Build a sniper perch (3-block tall pillar with a Driver Seat on top) and shoot the Farmbot from above with the Spud Gun.
Quest 6: First Warehouse
The NPC marks the nearest warehouse on your compass. Drive there, use your Warehouse Key, and clear the dungeon. For a full walkthrough, see how to find warehouses.
Quest 7: Into the Underground
The NPC reveals the location of a cave entrance. Bring at least one Battery and 100 Spud rounds. The underground layer has Cablebots and Minerbots — both dangerous in close quarters. Use the Plasma Drill at range.
Quest 8: The Final Boss
After clearing the underground, you face a final boss encounter. The fight is mechanical: kite, repair, repeat. The community-tested strategy is to build a circular bunker with Spud Guns on every cardinal direction, just like the Trash Bot fight.
After the questline
Once the questline ends, free-play continues. The underground remains accessible, new warehouses spawn on world resets, and you can keep refining rare metals indefinitely.
Common quest mistakes
- Skipping the questline entirely. You will not unlock the underground.
- Going into the warehouse undergeared. Bring at least a Spud Gun and a Spud Shotgun.
- Forgetting to bring a Battery to the underground. The layer is dark and your headlights draw agro.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Can I do the questline in multiplayer?
Yes. The quest progress is shared between all players in the session. Solo and multiplayer have the same objectives.
What happens if I fail a quest?
Nothing. Quests are repeatable. The same NPC will give you the same objective again if you abandon or fail it.
Is the questline skippable?
Yes, but the underground entrance only opens after you complete Quest 7.
