How to Beat the Trash Bot
Phase-by-phase strategy, the recommended arena build, and the loot the boss drops.
What the Trash Bot is
The Trash Bot is Scrap Mechanic’s first official boss, added in the 1.0 Drilling Thunder chapter. It spawns on warehouse rooftops — a massive grey-and-yellow robot with a red eye, mechanical arms, and a trash funnel on its back. The fight rewards preparation, mobility, and targeting the weak point when it exposes its energy core.
Recommended gear
- Spud Gun with 100+ rounds (primary DPS)
- Spud Shotgun or Spudling Gun for add waves
- Spud Launcher with flaming rounds for burst damage
- 4+ Revival Burgers for instant healing
- Metal armour blocks or the strongest materials you have crafted
Recommended arena setup
Before triggering the boss, build a small rooftop bunker:
- Circular wall 5 blocks wide with one entrance.
- Four Spud Guns on bearings aimed at the roof centre.
- One motion sensor at the entrance wired to all turrets.
- A bed inside for respawn.
This turns add waves into a defensive encounter instead of a DPS race in the open.
Attack patterns to learn
Community testing after the July 2026 launch identified four core attacks:
| Attack | What it does | How to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Junk Ball Roll | Launches a huge compressed trash ball that rolls across the roof | Keep moving; never stand still in one lane |
| Side-Pipe Shrapnel | Fires metal debris in a wide cone from side exhaust pipes | Keep distance; do not stand beside the bot |
| Slime Wave | Spreads toxic slime that slows movement across the arena | Jump away from green zones; reposition clockwise |
| Core exposure | After enough damage the head lowers, revealing a glowing energy core | Focus all DPS on the core while it is visible |
The Trash Bot also summons Haybot and Tapebot adds between attack cycles. Let rooftop turrets handle adds while you kite the boss.
Step-by-step strategy
- Clear the roof of Tapebots before triggering the Trash Bot.
- Trigger from inside your bunker so adds funnel through one entrance.
- Phase 1 — adds: Turrets fire automatically; mop up stragglers with the Spud Gun.
- Phase 2 — ranged pressure: Stay behind bunker walls when Tapebots spawn; walls block line of sight.
- Phase 3 — boss charges: Place metal blocks at the entrance to slow charges; kite back to centre with the Spud Launcher.
- Phase 4 — slime + hazards: Move constantly; do not chase DPS through slime patches.
- Phase 5 — core window: When the glowing core appears, empty the Spud Gun then switch to the Spud Launcher.
Red eye tells and melee finish
Community clears after launch confirmed a readable tell: when the Trash Bot’s red eye pulses brighter, the head lowers within two seconds and the energy core glows under the trash funnel. That window lasts about five seconds.
- Spud Gun family — safest DPS during the window; aim at the core, not the arms.
- Sledgehammer — viable if you sprint under the lowered head during the tell; high risk on Hard difficulty.
- Spud Launcher flaming rounds — best burst if you saved ammo for this phase only.
If the core closes before you break it, keep kiting — the eye pulse repeats every third attack cycle after enough chip damage.
The loot
The Trash Bot drops rare components used in late-game Craftbot recipes, a Trash Bot Core for themed builds, and occasionally cosmetic skins. Scan any Schematic it drops at the Schematicbot before leaving the warehouse.
Common mistakes
- Triggering the boss without clearing Tapebots first.
- Fighting in the open without a bunker or turret ring.
- Running out of ammo during the core window — bring 100+ Spud rounds.
- Eating Revival Burgers too early; save them for slime phases and core burst damage.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Can I fight the Trash Bot solo?
Yes, but the arena build is mandatory. Without turrets, the Haybot and Tapebot waves will overwhelm you.
Does the Trash Bot respawn?
Yes, after a server restart or a manual world reset. Loot is randomised, but the Trash Bot Core always drops.
What is the easiest class to fight the Trash Bot?
There are no classes in Scrap Mechanic. The recommended build is the arena + Spud Gun family.
