How to Use the Schematicbot in Scrap Mechanic 1.0
Roadside kiosks, item scanning, schematic boxes, beacon tips, and the Craftbot recipe chain.
What the Schematicbot actually is
In Scrap Mechanic 1.0 & Drilling Thunder, the Schematicbot is not a Craftbot bench you place at base. It is a fixed roadside kiosk — a squat scanner cabinet with a blue glowing bulb on top. You will find one beside most Farmer Shacks along the road network, usually near the green Farmer quest chain and Spud Gun trade routes.
Treat it like a vending machine for knowledge: you bring physical items or schematic boxes to the kiosk, interact, and permanently unlock recipes on your portable Craftbot menu. The kiosk stays in the world; you do not craft or carry it home.
If an old wiki page tells you to “place a Schematicbot within five blocks of your Craftbot,” that was pre-1.0 Early Access wording. In the July 24, 2026 release, scanning happens at roadside stations only.
How to find your first kiosk
Follow these reliable routes:
- Drive the main road away from the Mechanic Station after Quest 3. Farmer Shacks appear on map edges with a small barn silhouette.
- Look for the blue bulb at night — it is visible farther than the shack itself.
- Check ruins and rewards pages on your Logbook compass. Some roadside ruins spawn a kiosk one intersection later.
- Place a beacon the first time you interact. Patch 1.0.1 fixed several scan failures, but kiosks are still easy to forget once you push toward Mining Island.
Multiplayer hosts should announce the nearest kiosk coordinates after the first Farmer trade — shared worlds unlock scans for every player once any member completes a scan.
Method 1 — Scan items (drag with blue corner icon)
The primary unlock path is item scanning:
- Walk up to the kiosk and press Interact.
- The chest-style UI opens. Your inventory appears on the side.
- Drag any scannable item into the kiosk slot. Scannable items show a small blue corner icon on their inventory thumbnail — that marker means “this teaches the Schematicbot a recipe.”
- Confirm the scan animation. The item is consumed and a notification names the unlocked Craftbot recipe.
- Open your Craftbot (at the Mechanic Station or on a vehicle) and verify the recipe appears with correct material costs.
Common early scans include wheels, bearings, soil bags, and warehouse loot components. The full index lives on the Schematics reference page.
Scan commons before chasing rares
Axolot tuned the kiosk so scanning common items first improves schematic box odds. Each successful common scan fills a hidden “catalogue” meter at the kiosk. Players who feed boxes immediately after looting a warehouse often get duplicate low-tier unlocks; players who scan road loot first report better mid-tier pulls.
Recommended opening order:
- Tier 0 — anything with the blue corner icon you crafted yourself (Driver Seat, Small Wheels, Soil Bag).
- Tier 1 — ruin drops and warehouse floor loot.
- Tier 2 — underground crates after Quest 7.
Quest-granted and Trader-purchased blueprints are excluded from the random pool — you cannot accidentally roll a story-gated recipe from a box if the game already awarded it through dialogue.
Method 2 — Feed schematic boxes
The second path is schematic boxes — sealed crates with a pulsing blue label, dropped by Tapebots, warehouse shelves, and Grow Labs side rooms.
- Interact with the kiosk.
- Insert the box into the dedicated box slot (below the item scanner).
- The kiosk rattles, then spits out a random schematic unlock for your world.
Boxes never grant quest-exclusive or Trader-exclusive blueprints. They are best used when your catalogue meter is partially filled from common scans. Save boxes until after your first warehouse clear — the improved odds matter more once Tier 1 items are exhausted.
Patch 1.0.1 fixed scan failures for Baby Craftbot and UV Grow Bed unlocks tied to box rolls; update Steam before burning boxes on a fresh world.
Confirm unlocks on the Craftbot
The Schematicbot never crafts for you. After every scan or box:
- Open the Craftbot menu immediately.
- Search the new category (Plasma tools, automation, Trash Bot parts).
- Craft one copy to pin the recipe in your Logbook crafting history.
If a recipe is missing, you likely scanned on an outdated client or the item lacked the blue corner icon. Check updates — hotfix 1.0.1 specifically addressed Schematicbot sync bugs.
Road trip checklist
- Beacon placed on first kiosk found
- Every blue-corner inventory item scanned before opening boxes
- Craftbot menu checked after each session
- Warehouse schematic box saved until Tier 1 scans done
- Party members told scans are world-wide
Common mistakes
- Searching for a craftable Schematicbot bench. It does not exist in 1.0 Survival — only roadside kiosks.
- Dropping items on the ground near the kiosk. Drag into the UI slot; ground drops do not scan.
- Opening boxes before scanning commons. Wastes random rolls on duplicates.
- Trusting pre-1.0 wiki tables. Always verify against live Craftbot menus after scanning.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Can I move the Schematicbot kiosk?
No. It is a world fixture beside Farmer Shacks. Beacon it on your map and return by vehicle.
Do schematic boxes work in multiplayer?
Yes. Unlocks apply to the whole world. One player's scan or box roll unlocks the recipe for every member on that save.
Why did my box give a duplicate?
Random boxes pull from a pool minus quest and Trader exclusives. Scan more common items first to shrink the duplicate pool and improve mid-tier odds.
