New Building Parts in Scrap Mechanic 1.0

The Drilling Thunder roster — from portable benches to vehicle-mounted farms and automated saw turrets.

Last updated:

Why 1.0 added so many parts

The Drilling Thunder chapter did not only add underground biomes — it expanded the Survival crafting tree with parts that reward mobility, automation and base logistics. Most new blocks unlock through Schematics scanned at the Schematicbot, not through the default Craftbot menu. This page indexes every major 1.0 addition and where it fits in your build pipeline.

If you are still on a pre-1.0 mental model, start with how to start fresh in 1.0 before chasing these recipes.

Portable and bench upgrades

Baby Craftbot (Mini-Craftbot)

The Baby Craftbot is a compact Craftbot you can mount on vehicles or place inside underground bases. It crafts the same tier-1 parts as a full Craftbot but cannot access late-game Schematic-gated recipes. Use it when you want to repair wheels mid-raid without driving back to the Mechanic Station.

Unlock: early yellow quest chain at the crash site, or scan the schematic from a warehouse crate.

Freezer

The Freezer preserves cooked food without spoil timers. Pair it with the Cookbot and food loop — stack Revival Burgers before a Trash Bot run and pull them from cold storage during slime phases.

Unlock: mid-game Schematic, often found in Grow Labs side rooms or desert warehouses.

Multi-component kit

The multi-component kit bundles circuit components, bearings and connectors into one craft for vehicle builders. It reduces inventory clutter when you are assembling a mining rig with dozens of bearings. See how to build an early mining rig for a layout that consumes kits efficiently.

Mobility parts

Sticky wheel

Sticky wheels grip slopes and warehouse ramps that standard wheels spin on. They add mass — build lighter chassis when swapping all four wheels. Essential for Mining Island causeway climbs and underground exit ramps.

Ladder

Ladders are climbable structure blocks for vertical bases. They replace improvised wood-stack towers and work inside warehouse interiors where bearings cannot fit. Wire a motion sensor at the top for trap setups.

360-degree pilot seat

The 360-degree pilot seat lets you look and steer independently — critical for reverse-driving mining rigs and turret platforms. It pairs with the Turret Seat on dual-seat combat vehicles.

Combat and automation

Turret Seat

The Turret Seat is a manned gunner chair wired to Spud Guns or Plasma tools on bearings. One player drives; another operates weapons without leaving the vehicle. Combine with defensive base motion sensors for stationary rooftop setups.

Unlock: warehouse Schematic or Foreman Kael trade after Grow Labs progression.

Sawbot

The Sawbot is an automated melee turret that shreds Totebots and Haybots at close range. It draws power from an adjacent Battery and triggers on logic timers. Place at farm choke points documented in how to protect your farm.

Farming and power

UV Grow Bed

The UV Grow Bed grows crops on moving vehicles — the endgame answer to raid cells that target static farms. Mount beds on a gantry frame, add water cannons, and drive the rig on a loop. Full build: automated farming.

Unlock: Schematic from Grow Labs Specimen Archive or underground agricultural crates.

Battery Generator

The Battery Generator converts refined fuel or processed ore into battery charge for off-grid bases. It anchors the ore processing chain underground where solar is unavailable. Place one per refinery wing to keep Crushers and Prospectors running during long mining sessions.

Quality-of-life blocks

Drilling Thunder also added digital clocks, boomboxes and decorative lighting variants. They do not affect progression but help synchronise raid timers and mark base zones in multiplayer.

  1. Baby Craftbot — mobility for early warehouse loops.
  2. Sticky wheels — Mining Island and steep wrecks.
  3. UV Grow Bed schematic — before wave 3 raids outscale static farms.
  4. Ore Crusher + Battery Generator — see ore processing.
  5. Turret Seat + Sawbot — warehouse rooftops and Trash Bot prep.

Common mistakes

  • Crafting a full-size Craftbot on every vehicle instead of a Baby Craftbot — wastes mass and battery.
  • Mounting UV Grow Beds without water delivery — crops wilt mid-loop.
  • Powering Sawbots from a single small Battery — they stall during raid waves.
  • Ignoring Schematic scans — many 1.0 parts never appear in the default Craftbot list.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Do Creative Mode players get these parts for free?

Yes. All 1.0 parts are in the Creative inventory. Survival requires Schematics or quest unlocks for most entries on this page.

Can I mount a Baby Craftbot and a UV Grow Bed on the same vehicle?

Yes, if you balance mass and battery draw. Keep the Craftbot on a secondary bearing so it does not block bed irrigation lines.

Is the Sawbot better than Spud Gun turrets?

Sawbots excel at melee add waves; Spud Guns remain better for Tapebots and the Trash Bot core window. Use both in layered defences.
