The Scrap City Garage
Import Creative blueprints into Survival and spawn finished machines without wasting resources.
What the Garage is
The Garage is a new building in Scrap City introduced with Scrap Mechanic 1.0. It bridges Creative Mode and Survival by letting you import blueprints from Creative worlds and spawn finished creations directly into your Survival save.
This is one of the most important quality-of-life additions in the Drilling Thunder update. Before 1.0, players had to rebuild complex machines from scratch in Survival — often wasting hours of metal and components on failed prototypes.
Where to find it
Scrap City is a late-game landmark reached through the Chapter 2 questline. Follow the yellow quest markers after completing the Mechanic Station arc and the early Mining Island objectives. The Garage building sits in the central Scrap City plaza — look for the wrench sign and the large bay doors.
You cannot access the Garage until the story brings you to Scrap City. Attempting to reach it early by off-road exploration is possible but not recommended without end-game combat gear.
How to import a Creative blueprint
- Build and test in Creative Mode. Open a Creative world and construct your machine — vehicle, mining rig, automated farm or defensive turret.
- Export the blueprint. Use the in-game blueprint export tool to save the creation as a file.
- Reach Scrap City in Survival. Progress through the questline until Scrap City unlocks.
- Interact with the Garage terminal. Select “Import Blueprint” and choose your exported file.
- Spawn the creation. The Garage assembles the machine in your Survival world using materials from your inventory or nearby storage.
What you can import
| Creation type | Works in Garage? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicles | Yes | Most common use case — cars, tractors, helicopters |
| Mining rigs | Yes | Plasma Drill attachments and drill vehicles |
| Automated farms | Yes | Vacuum-pump gantry layouts transfer well |
| Defensive turrets | Yes | Sawbot and Turret Seat setups |
| Buildings / bases | Partial | Large static structures may exceed size limits |
| Logic-only contraptions | Yes | Timers, sensors and switch chains import cleanly |
Parts that require Schematics you have not yet scanned in Survival will appear as locked placeholders until you unlock them.
Material costs
Importing through the Garage is not free. The Garage consumes Survival resources equivalent to crafting each part normally. Keep a stocked chest near the Garage with:
- Refined metal and component kits.
- Batteries for powered parts.
- Blocks matching your blueprint’s material requirements.
The cost is the same as if you had built the machine by hand — the Garage saves time and placement errors, not resources.
Patch 1.0.4 chest fix
Before patch 1.0.4, the Garage storage chest accepted more items than its visible capacity — a bug that let players overfill imports. The August 1, 2026 hotfix enforces slot limits correctly. Plan material runs before large blueprint imports; you can no longer exploit extra hidden slots.
Best practices
- Prototype in Creative first. Test steering, weight balance and logic timing before importing.
- Import in modules. Split a large factory into three smaller blueprints rather than one mega-import.
- Use with co-op. One player designs in Creative while others gather materials in Survival — see multiplayer co-op.
- Back up your save before importing very large creations. A failed import on an overloaded save can cause physics glitches.
Garage vs manual building
| Factor | Garage import | Manual build |
|---|---|---|
| Time | Minutes | Hours for complex machines |
| Resource cost | Same | Same |
| Placement accuracy | Exact replica | Depends on builder skill |
| Schematic locks | Respects Survival unlocks | Respects Survival unlocks |
| Size limit | Large but capped | No cap, but performance risk |
For players who prefer hands-on building, the Garage is optional — every part can still be crafted at the Craftbot. For engineers who design in Creative, it is essential.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Can I import blueprints from old Early Access Creative worlds?
Yes, as long as the Creative save loads in 1.0. Export from the updated Creative world, then import at the Garage.
Does the Garage work in multiplayer?
Yes. Any player who reaches Scrap City can use the Garage. Imported machines appear in the shared Survival world.
Is there a blueprint size limit?
Very large creations (5,000+ parts) may fail to import or cause physics lag. Split into smaller modules for reliable results.
